Abstract

The author, being a consultant to the Council of Europe's Directorate of Human Rights Group of Specialists on Media Pluralism, looks at the process of integration in Europe between companies from telecommunications, broadcasting, cable, computer and print media sectors and its overall impact on media pluralism. In particular, after following the development of the multi-channel market in Europe, he concentrates on a variety of means to ensure pluralism in this market, such as ownership controls and "must carry" rules on broadcasting, gateways and bottlenecks, and browser open access.
